Increasing Cigarettes Prices in Pakistan
Government is targeting the tobacco sector from a long time by collecting higher taxes. Currently, there is a huge strike of 153% FED that will give a massive increase in the price of cigarettes. There will be a 250% increase in the rates of cigarettes that are produced by some well-known companies.Â
Now, talking about the increase of price of cigarettes in numbers.
Federal Board of revenue has notified the FED increase on some of the popular brands that will be from Rs. 6.5 per cigarette to about Rs. 16.5 – this makes around 153%. For other brands, the increment will be from Rs. 2.55 to Rs. 5.05, here, the hike is around 98%.
Due to massive increase in FED, Philip Morris Pakistan Limited, one of the multinational tobacco firm in Pakistan, has created a price increase of more than 250% in comparison to prices of cigarettes in the year 2022.
Retail prices of all popular cigarettes brands, like Benson, Gold Leaf, Marlboro, John Player, Dunhill, and Capstan has been increased and you will find the cheapest cigarette retailing of Rs. 211 and the most popular ones are available at the rate of Rs. 525 per packet.
Some of the experts are forecasting that due to the FED hikes, some of the legitimate companies survival will decline as the sales might decrease due to increase in price.Â
